Good May

conveyerI come bearing gifts. Well, a fresh and free mp3. It’s called ‘Bad May’ and reflects a feeling from a few years back when I did indeed have a Bad May. Very different to the one that’s just running out. It’s been a very good May this year. Anyway, the track is a beaty thing with other sounds in it. Call it trip-hop and I’ll come round and slap you with a cold kipper.

Animals on Wheels – Bad May – 320k mp3

The long range forecast for the UK this summer is for a hot one. I’ve got my fingers crossed this is going to happen. Last year was a summer of rain and distinctly unsummery temperatures so it’s about time we had a good one.

So, just to remind you, my latest ep is out now. Called ‘Dummy’ and limited to 500 vinyl copies with jolly nice card sleeves it contains four tracks of electronic music. Music to stumble to. It’s released by the lovely people at ‘La Madame avec La Chien‘ and should be available to buy from online retailers.

Elektra in Montreal

Venue fogSo I’m playing tonight at the Elektra festival in Montreal. The show is at the Usine C theatre at 10pm if you happen to want to come down for it.

It’s the second Openland live show with a dual screen video show along with my improvised audio twiddlings. I’m really excited about playing here as the venue is fantastic with a very good sound system. Fingers crossed, the show should sound as good as it can be.

I arrived in Montreal yesterday evening and managed to get out to the opening shows of the festival. Feeling really tired and rather disorientated, I got to see the performance of ‘Feed’ by Kurt Hentschlager. It’s an amazing experience of quite extreme audio and visual where the theatre is filled with dry ice (supplied by 20 smoke machines!) and then lit up by strobing, pulsing light. The soundtrack was mostly drone based, with some rhythmic material and plenty of sub bass and it fitted perfectly with the visuals.

If you ever see ‘Feed’ coming to your town then don’t pass up a chance to see it. Well, unless you have issues with strobe lights.

Openland live shows

I’ve got a few live audio/visual shows coming up over the next couple of months. They are as follow:

  • 3 Apr 2009
    Nemo festival, Paris
  • 8 May 2009
    Elektra festival, Montreal
  • 14 May 2009
    Mapping Festival, Geneva

I don’t have more info than that at the moment. I’m sure Google can help you if you need to know specific details.

All the shows will feature both myself and Patrick Defasten performing a totally live version of the Openland film. The show will run for about an hour. Free cake for everyone coming along (I’m quite possibly lying here).

Dummy

aow_dummyThe Dummy ep is now available for purchase at your local record emporium. It’s distributed by Cargo so should find its way to a number of places. Limited to 500 copies and wrapped in a rather fetching 350g recycled card sleeve, it’s something to hand down to the grandchildren, or maybe feed to the dog.

A bit of Openland and some almost

openlandliveIn celebration of the fact that the company hosting this site has quietly increased both my disk space and bandwidth, I’m going to post up some more mp3′s.

Today’s mp3 is the opening part of the Openland album (rather than the soundtrack). It’s over 10 minutes long and very quiet in places so I’ve encoded it as a VBR file.
