I’ve recently built a ‘catcam’ kit from Mr Lee ( CatCamlink ) and I’ve been having some fun equipping my terrier, Noodle, with it whilst out on walks. There are a few teething troubles to sort out- the box keeps falling off due to Noodles spinning jumping and running (she’s a lively little thing) so I need a stronger bit of wire or string to hold it in place.
I was pleasantly surprised to find Noodle was totally relaxed to wear the camera under her chin. It must be quite comfy and she took to it like a pro.
The custom chip that is fitted inside the case works by turning the camera
on, taking a photo and then turning it off again. This cycle is repeated every few minutes, taking a snap of whatever Noodle is looking at.
The photos produced are nicely lofi and often quite abstract, movement blurring aplenty. I’m liking them a lot and have a bit of an addiction to the possibilities of a time lapse camera. Helium balloons, cats and dogs are all possible. ToddlerCam might be fun as well.
If you’re reading this and thinking, ‘Yeah, I want one’, then be warned that the modification of the camera needs good eyesight and a steady hand with a soldering iron. There are detailed instructions on the Mr Lee site so it isn’t so hard if you can manage the fiddly bits.
